Google Tokyo Partner Plex

The Google Tokyo Partner Plex is a facility designed to host events and meetings for various clients. While at Iontank, Greg worked on the lobby sculpture which combined two elements. There was an animated array of pendants on a modular plating system, as well as a large sculptural bowl.

Each of the pendants are composed of a partially frosted outer tube with a fully frosted inner tube, a down light, which projected a gentle pattern on the floor, as well as an up-light ring at the bottom of the pendant for the gentle addition of color to the light.

Each pendant is individually addressable in 3D space and is connected with the show control system for the rest of the facility.

The exterior of the bowl is made of many layers of solid surface. The top of the bowl was machined out of cast acrylic and the pattern was informed by a physics simulation of waves propagating across the surface of a fluid.

The inside of the bowl also has addressable lighting, which can be controlled by the event space’s show control software.
