UPMC VRT Sculpture
While working for Iontank, Greg had a chance to work with artist Shohei Katayama to realise a work that was commissioned by the UPMC Mercy Vision Rehab Facility.
The sculpture utilizes a custom built lighting system that allows for the individual control for 100 nearly culminated lights that cast onto an array of Dichroic Acrylic pieces.
The compounding reflections and smooth animation of lights provide the sense of an organic motion throughout the sculpture.
The technology stack used to run the sculpture was designed specifically for this project. Each of the 100 high powered LEDs have a near culminating optical element mounted to them and are addressable to allow for animation capability.
